I chose the name Joyful Classroom for two reasons. One, it describes me. I make an effort to choose joy daily. It’s not always easy but choosing joy each day draws me closer to my Father. When I choose joy, I choose to depend on God and rest in His promises. Two, it describes the classroom environment that I strive to create. I want my classroom to be filled with joy daily! So what does a joyful classroom look like? When I picture it, I see kids engaged in learning tasks that best fit their needs. I see kids working together and building each other up. I see kids who explore, create, and share their ideas and their creativity. I see kids who are not afraid to take risks. I see kids who have growth mindsets and realize that mistakes are OK. I see myself standing at my classroom door, greeting every student as they come in so that they know that I care and that I am there for them. I see myself encouraging students to keep trying and to use their mistakes to grow. I realize that these things that I picture don’t always come easy, but when I choose joy daily in my personal life, I choose joy in my classroom too.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13
